Jeff Oxman
Jeff Oxman, whose collecting interests have spanned almost six decades, is today a respected author, researcher, lecturer and collector. For the past 35 years his primary focus has been Morgan and Peace dollars, where he has devoted his energies to discovering, writing about, and attributing the more than 4,000 known die varieties. As a result of his research, Oxman is often called upon for his silver dollar expertise, and his consulting resumé includes all of the top numismatic trade newspapers and grading services.
A turning point in his numismatic career, as well as in the hobby’s approach to collecting U.S. silver dollars, came in 1988, when he and a handful of other silver dollar specialists banded together to form the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors (SSDC). Oxman was its Founding President, and then formed a new SSDC, which is still catering to the interests of Morgan and Peace dollar variety specialists. It remains at the forefront of U.S. silver dollar collecting.
Oxman’s writing talents have been showcased on a number of occasions as guest columnist for the Collectors’ Clearinghouse pages in Coin World, as well as co-commentator for a front-page feature about silver dollars in the Coin Dealer Newsletter (Greysheet). In addition, he has contributed articles for most of the club publications where he is a member.
Jeff is credited with rekindling interest in silver dollar varieties with his professional Society of Silver Dollar (SSDC) collector journals and auctions from the 1990’s and into the 21 fist century. As co-author of “The Top 100 Morgan dollar Varieties: The VAM Keys”, with Michael S. Fey, Ph.D. Jeff helped spark a revolution in the silver dollar market as dealers, grading services and collector interest exploded. Jeff further contributed to silver dollar variety collecting with his indispensable books, “1878 Morgan Dollar 8-TF Attribution Guide” with co-author Les Hartnett, his “The 1878 7/8-TF Morgan Dollar Attribution Guide” with Les Hartnett, his “Official Guide to the Morgan Dollar Hit List 40”, his “The Official Guide to the Top 50 Peace Dollar Varieties” with co-author, David Close, M.D., and several rapid CD and flash drive teaching “Wizards” for the above references with John Baumgart. Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge to Morgan and Peace silver dollar variety collecting.
