Bill Fivaz

Bill Fivaz, a coin collector, dealer, and author since the 1950s has become one of the most well-respected authorities on coin errors and rare die varieties in the country. Bill served on the Board of Governors of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and as a Board Director of the Combined Organization of Numismatic Error Collectors (CONECA). He has been an educator and nationally recognized speaker on various numismatic topics. He has published hundreds of articles and has been a consultant to several coin grading services.

Bill is perhaps best known for his book with co-author J. T. Stanton, Cherrypickers’ Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins, now in its two-volume 6th edition. He has also contributed to the most popular coin book, the Red Book: A Guide to United States Coins, published by Whitman Publishing Company, Atlanta, GA, annually since 1936.

His awards include the Farren Zerbe Memorial Award in 1995, ANA’s highest honor, and he was inducted into the ANA Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2010, the ANA and Whitman endowed the Bill Fivaz Young Numismatist Literary Award for young numismatists aged 8–12 years old.
